Shooting from the Backseat with Marcy

1. I'm currently selling my work. If anything particular shot, any model, or any set interests you, please email me at farenell.photography@gmai.com.

Just tell me what interests you & I'll see what I can do. I try to work within people's budgets but I'm also not going to like give them away for pennies on the US dollar.

2. The shot below was taken while as an undergrad way up in Northern NY. It was one of the more brutal winters where Spring really didn't arrive til a week before finals. The winters are so harsh up there that when the first day its above freezing, the ENTIRE student body is walking around in their shorts & flip-flops. Its strange how 33 degrees in the Autumn is the pits while 33 degrees in the Spring is balmy.

But I digress.

I had an idea using the snow & figured the way to do it was shoot real quick, as long as we could run to her idling car, warm up, go back out, rinse, recycle, repeat. The intent was to put the physical ache of the abysmal cold on me instead of my model.

I did not anticipate the how brutal wind coming off Racquette River location!

There came a point in the shoot where I was dreading returning to the cold because all I needed is my index finger & thumb to operate my camera. I've tried everything over the years flip-hunting hunter gloves, fingerless gloves, tried cutting off the tips of only the thumb & index, tried packing those outdoor heating packs...nothing works. Once the cold ache sets in, I just may as well call it a day. Having a 10-page term paper due the next day awaiting me back home wasn't helping matters.

So anyways, I came up with this crackpot idea of "why not hop in her backseat & shoot it from there?" Marcy was happy she didn't have to go back out. I was happy we didn't have to go back out. End of story.

This was one of the keepers.

Cheers for now.

Relativity

This week has been blistering cold here in Northern NY. I could complain but then I remember that I've survived through 5 Potsdam winters & am reminded that I've had worse.

I had an outdoor shoot scheduled this weekend & had to cancel. I didn't even want to walk the 10-15 paces there was to warm up the car. Thankfully, the model had the "what were we thinking" line of thoughts that I was. So we rescheduled.

I think the same way during the summertime. Surviving through 2 Okinawa summers where the temperatures routinely reached 95 & 100 while it was so humid there was literally no difference between the sun & the shade certainly puts things into perspective. However I WILL complain about the rain if need be. That's my exception to the rule. :-)

I try & remember (in 99% of the situations I find myself in) that no matter how crappy I THINK my life is, there's always someone out there who is in a worse situation than me. I'm just thankful I'm not them. Yes, its quite gallows humorous but it works for me.

Everything is relative. Its like the therapist scene from Woody Allen's "Annie Hall." Woody & Diane are seeing their therapists (split screen). The therapists ask them both how often they have sex. Diane answer, "All the time like 3 times a week." While Woody replies, "Practically never, like 3 times a week."

Again, everything's relative. :-)

*sigh*

In other news, speaking of all things relative...

This here is Nancy.

The idea in my head was to messify her up because I'm always doing her "pretty" or "presentable". Wife-beater, fishnets, undies, boots were mentioned & left it at that w/ her to come up w/ the rest. She came out looking like she does below. It was NOT remotely what I had in my head but, considering everything is relative (particularly when said idea is vague to begin w/), it was still workable & admittedly, I liked it better than whatever I had in my head. Go figure.

One of Those Weeks

Its been one of "those" weeks.

Last weekend's shoot got cancelled due to a snowstorm. The spot that I've been milking since God knows how long has temporarily been retired due to said snow blocking the route to get there.

Later this week, that shoot got canceled due to stress over a school final. Can't blame them for it since I've been there. We're both looking to reschedule but until we're actually shooting I'm not holding my breath. Life gets in the way sometimes.

Multiple inquires but nothing ever materializing...as of yet.

Snows again, this weekend. I know I should expect, it tis the season & whatnot but it won't stop me from venting. I'm definitely not a winter person. :-)

This week's prize was getting into an argument w/ a friend. I cracked a joke in a moment of levity that I've said a thousand times over including them. They get ticked off, which happens. When I ask why or what's changed, the best the person can come up w/ is "Quit playing dumb. If you don't know, then I'm not going to tell you." So much for getting the benefit of the doubt. As if I don't have enough real drama in my life w/o the petty, manufactured faux stuff. LOL *rolls eyes*

All I can do is shrug my shoulders. That & remain optimistic that this week will be better.

*sigh*

This here is the super sweet Alyssa which was taken this past summer during my stay in Boston. We went to one of those old pre-colonial fort tourist places down somewhere on the Massachusetts coast. It was yet another abysmally rainy day.
